This shows how this wiki was installed. It assumes the system is set up according to the other server documents

MediaWiki is in Gentoo Portage so emerge it. 

emerge -av mediawiki

This creates the directory '/var/www/localhost/htdocs/mediawiki'. I like to create a simlink to it so that it can be accessed http://epixstudios.co.uk/wiki 

cd /var/www/localhost/htdocs/
ln -sf mediawiki wiki

Go to http://localhost/wiki in your web browser and it will take you to configuration page. You will need to specify details of your new wiki including the root password for MySQL so that it can create the database.

When the configuration is complete you need to copy the config/LocalSettings.php file to the MediaWiki base directory. 

cp config/LocalSettings.php .
