Trumpet / Cornett Mouthpieces
My brother plays trumpet and cornett. Cornetts were popular instruments from around 1500 and today there are specialists who try to build instruments as accurately as possible to the original designs.
We were lucky enough to find a German book of mouthpieces which contained diagrams and measurements.
I used FreeCAD to re-create a couple of the designs. Although there were measurements, a few dimensions had to be made up to match the images as closely as possible.
The generated STL files were sent off and 3D printed at Shapeways in a couple of different materials. They play very well and are used regularly. We hope to make tweaks, try out other designs, materials and finishes.
